CuGate Icons and Georgian musician Dudana Mazmanishvili collaborated on this Schumann collection. It includes a fantastic performance of Schuman's "unplayable" Toccata as well as thoughtful analyses of two more sentimental masterworks.

Lagidzes Rondo Toccata, a live stage recording, creates a highly percussionist bridge to the Schumann Toccata, dousing some Georgian flavor over the Classical greek catalogue.

About Dudana Mazmanishvili

Dudana Mazmanishvili's poetic skills and outstanding virtuosity have received rave reviews on stages around the globe in appearances of concert and chamber orchestra works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Prokofiev, Schumann, and others. The Busoni Contest in Bolzano, Italy, the August Everding Prize in Munich, and the Dorothy MacKenzie Reward are among some of her awards.

Mazmanishvili earned her Carnegie Hall appearance in a rehearsal at Zankel Hall described as "staggeringly tuneful and heavy" by columnist Harris Goldsmith of the Classical Music Journal. She has made appearances in Europe and the United States in recent seasons. Mazmanishvili has performed at the Musikverein in Vienna, Berlin's Konzerthaus, Paris' Salle-Cortot, and New York's Phillips Series.

She has appeared with the Bach Council Orchestra at the Gasteig Philharmonie in Munich, as well as the Macedonian Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, and the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie. International Piano Publication and Musical America named her to their "Growing Star" charts.

Mazmanishvili was attracted to songs at a young age and started violin lessons with her mom, Tamar Apakidze, when she was three years old. Mazmanishvili did her schooling at the Munich Hochschule with pianist and pedagogue Elisso Virsaladze, and at the Mannes School of Art in New York City with Jerome Rose, while her mother fostered her musical abilities. Her maiden concerto at Germany's Klavierfestival Ruhr was televised on Deutschlandfunk, and her appearance was included on the Festival's CD list. Dudana Mazmanishvili's virtuosic career was intertwined with her project as cultural attachée from 2013 to 2018, fostering Georgian culture and owning up to a region with deep historical roots. In 2018, she was inducted into the European choir.

Schumann is widely regarded as the forefather of Romantic piano music's Glory Days. Is this real, or were the differences that occurred after Beethoven and Schubert simply a result of the wind? Mendelssohn (1809 – 1847) and Chopin (1810 – 1849), both born about the same time as Schumann (1810 – 1856), come to mind. All three have one thing in common: they honed their craft at a young age. It is really incredible how things are progressing. Such coincidences can be found throughout history, not just during the Romantic era. Consider the Baroque, where Beethoven, Handel, and Scarlatti all shared the same year of birth. This sometimes appears as if history is repeating itself. Even those ages, in a way, have a lot in common.
