Trenchless Technology Approved by UPC for Cast Iron Soil Pipes and Fittings 2020

IAPMO has reversed the ban on Cured in Place Rehabilitation for Cast Iron Soil Pipes in 2020.

Nu Flow Technologies has announced the IAPMO decision to permit trenchless technology methods and materials when it comes to cast iron pipes. Changes made to the 2018 UPC, along with proposed changes to the 2021 UPC were effectively banning the use of CIPP lining when used in cast iron pipe applications.

Nu Flow with the help of NASSCO appealed the decision and in January 2020 were able to successfully advocate in support of the NASSCO petition for relief. Responding to the petition, IAPMO found ample evidence within the record favoring the CIPP rehabilitation when used on cast iron pipes.

Section 715.3 of 2018 UPC (Uniform Plumbing Code) has been returned to the same language as was found in the 2015 edition and the 2021 edition will also permit trenchless technology. The President at Nu Flow Technologies, Cameron Manners said “We are thankful for the collaborative efforts of NASSCO and the favorable resolution of the matter.”

Rehabilitating pipes is cost effective and minimizes disruption in homes and companies throughout the world. Replacing pipes can be expensive and time consuming, while the long lasting rehabilitation methods offered by using CIPP lining can save time and money. Trenchless methods can add fifty years of lifespan to your existing pipes.

Cameron Manners went on to say, “We are delighted with this outcome and the ability to continue rehabilitating cast iron soil pipes moving forward. Our methodology eliminates the need for deep trenches and it causes minimal damage. Traditional methods are time consuming, expensive and dangerous for the plumbing team.”

Nu Flow Technologies remains a top choice for CIPP lining and the team is delighted with their success as trenchless technology continues to be a leading rehabilitation choice around the world. The company caters to clients around the globe with the assistance of their international team of plumbing partners, who are all trained and experienced in using their quality products, including Nu Drain and Nu Line.

Home and business owners are looking for ways to save money in 2020 and using trenchless methodology over traditional methods is proving popular once again in Q4 2020.
