In Südkorea wird demnächst die nächste Stufe im LTE-Ausbau freigegeben, wodurch Download-Raten von bis zu 225 Megabit pro Sekunde möglich sind. Dafür braucht es ein neues Modem das LTE Cat6 unterstützt, womit bis zu 300 Megabit pro Sekunde möglich sind. Erreicht wird das durch das sogenannte Carrier Aggregation: Die Bündelung mehrerer Kanäle, um mehr Bandbreite pro Nutzer zu ermöglichen.Da das Modem des Snapdragon 801 jedoch nur LTE Cat4 unterstützt und Samsung unbedingt mit zu den ersten Anbietern solcher Smartphones gehören will, hat man sich zum Galaxy S5 LTE-A entschieden. Der Verkauf des Gerätes soll noch diese Woche bei SK Telecom beginnen zu Preisen von 94.500 südkoreanische Won ohne Vertrag, was umgerechnet etwa 679 Euro entspricht. An Farben stehen Charcoal Black, Shimmer White, Electric Blue, Copper Gold, Sweet Pink und Glam Red zur Auswahl.
