Etwa drei Mal im Monat verzeichnen allein die amerikanischen Behörden derzeit einen Zwischenfall, bei dem ein elektronisches Gerät im Flugverkehr überhitzt, raucht, explodiert oder Feuer fängt.

Zum Beispiel Flug 2981, von Seattle nach Salt Lake City. Da sprühte ein iPhone plötzlich Funken in der Kabine. Oder Flug 90, von Newark nach Tel Aviv, als ein iPad sich zwischen zwei Sitzen verkeilte, sehr schnell sehr heiß wurde und zu qualmen anfing. Oder ein Flug von Houston nach Havanna im März: Da explodierte in einem Rucksack ein Powerpack, eine Ersatzbatterie für Elektronik, und es kam zu einem kleinen Brand an Bord.

"Das könnte dann ein Problem verursachen, welches das Flugzeug gefährdet", sagte der Sicherheitsexperte Duane Pfund von der US-Materialaufsicht PHMSA kürzlich auf einer Konferenz amerikanischer Piloten. Ein Laptop könnte also, falls er zu nah an Kosmetikprodukten gepackt ist und seine Batterie zu sehr belastet wird, einen Passagierjet zum Absturz bringen. Die PHMSA warnt zudem davor, dass Batterien häufig ohne Gefahrgutkennzeichnung auf Passagierflügen als kommerzielle Fracht transportiert würden.

Der chinesische PC-Hersteller Lenovo hat mit dem ThinkPad P1 seine nach eigenen Angaben "dünnste und leichteste" mobile Workstation aller Zeiten vorgestellt. Tatsächlich ist das neue 15,6-Zoll-Notebook mit nur gut 18 Millimetern Bauhöhe und 1,7 Kilogramm Gewicht extrem dünn und leicht - und das trotz eines riesigen 80-Wattstunden-Akkus und Intel Xeon-Prozessoren.
