The Twinwood Vintage Music & Dance Festival has become, for many, a happening on the calendar that they refuse to miss. It takes place every year during the August Bank Holiday weekend and has grown tremendously the last few years.
As a typical retro festival, Twinwood is quite unique and offers revellers a great opportunity to travel back in time to a place where Rock and Roll was king and Swing everybody’s favourite sound to dance to.
It was a time when big bands, harmonies and the polka dot often set the scene for a great time. In other words, we are talking about the 40’s and 50’s – but also earlier periods including the 20’s and 30’s - of the previous century when certain music styles were popular.
Those attending the Twninwood Festival are typically enthusiasts who love the music, hairstyles and clothes of those years. Today there seems to be a resurgence of some older styles and expression, and this is exactly what the Festival has managed to do: to bring together enthusiasts and bands reminiscent of those times. Twinwood Events has grown into a busy affair with tickets going on sale early every year – and often sold out way before the weekend.
The firm’s Creative Director Ms Annie Wooding was quoted recently, “As an events company we are delighted to say this is one of our most popular, most successful events every year. People just seem to love what we have to offer in terms of shows, bands, acts and accompanying activities.
“The line-up offers some great acts every year – some artists return to the festival whereas others perform for the first time. Visitors get the opportunity to listen to the singers and bands and very often great opportunities to dance the night away. For a great dun time, come join us and leave the city behind for a while.”
Well-known acts such as Kai Hoffman & Her Combo, Simon Moon, 1960’s DJ, and the Fabulous Hurricanes - known for their vintage Rock ‘n Roll and Rhythm ‘n Blues - get their turn on Friday, for example, whereas The Electric Swing Circus and The Glenn Miller Orchestra take centre stage on Saturday. Of course the line-up features many more class acts to ensure all tastes and wishes are considered.
It is not unusual for enthusiasts to return to Twinwood year after year for a fun-filled weekend.
