Richie Culver is a British contemporary artist who grew up in the city of Hull in Yorkshire. He now spends the majority of his time in Portugal where he lives and works out of his own studio. When not in Portugal, Richie spends his time in London, where he also has a studio.

Richie is proud of his roots and growing up in the North of England, surrounded by the working class. His upbringing and past experience have pathed the way to him becoming a relevant contemporary artist.
Richie pulls a great deal of his inspiration from his time spent working on a caravan site and his weekly trips to the job centre.
This led to the creation of Richie's most recent full exhibition 'no one knows me like dawn for the job centre'.

'The exhibition plays on the humour written into our mediated perception of working-class life, but does not forego, firstly, the humanity and deeper sense of compassion in “knowing” somebody, and secondly, the tragedy of a bureaucratic system where human sympathy is disregarded.' Richie Culver. Dawn is the human face of the British governing system it is her job to decide who qualifies for job seekers allowance and who does not. Each of Richie's paintings depicts a story of visits to dawn and all of life in between the visits. Comedy runs free throughout this exhibition.

Richie's art is made up of a combination of paintings, sculptures and photographs. His paintings are more often than not on large canvas, drenched in white acrylic to set the background. He then creates his scene by painting his characters in an abstract and sketchy style. Words often play a part in his artwork, helping the viewer pick out the punchline.
As an emerging British artist, Richie offers everything you would want from a young exciting and possibly influential artist. Creating intrigue, laughter and fresh pieces of art.
