Lightfastness refers to the degree of discoloration of colored fabrics by sunlight.

Lightfastness refers to the degree of discoloration of colored fabrics by sunlight. The national standard and the European standard are divided into 8 levels, 8 is the best, 1 is the worst, and the American standard is divided into 5, 5 is the best, and 1 is the worst. Fabrics with poor lightfastness should not be exposed to the sun for a long time and should be dried in the shade in a ventilated place.

Washing or soaping fastness refers to the degree of the color change of dyed fabrics after washing with washing liquid. The judgment is based on the color difference between the original sample and the faded sample. The washing fastness is divided into 5 grades, grade 5 is the best and grade 1 is the worst.

Rubbing fastness refers to the degree of discoloration of dyed fabrics after rubbing, which can be divided into dry rubbing and wet rubbing. The rubbing fastness is evaluated based on the degree of white cloth staining, and it is divided into 5 levels. The larger the value, the better the rubbing fastness.

Perspiration fastness refers to the degree of color fading of dyed fabrics after soaking in sweat. Divided into 1~5 levels, the higher the level, the better.

Ironing fastness refers to the degree of discoloration or fading of dyed fabrics during ironing. The fastness is divided into 1~5 grade, 5 is the best and 1 is the worst.

Sublimation fastness refers to the degree of sublimation of dyed fabrics in storage. It is divided into 5 levels, with level 1 being the worst and level 5 being the best.

Chlorine immersion fastness is generally aligned with some swimming suits because the seawater contains chlorine, which will easily fade the fabric.

Some fabrics have been tested to have good perspiration fastness and lightfastness, but in actual use, especially in summer, it is easy to fade with perspiration and sunlight, which requires inspection of perspiration fastness.

Most of the current laundry detergents are added with peroxides such as peracetic acid and some activators, causing textiles to be oxidized and faded during the washing process. Therefore, the color fastness of textiles must have a certain tolerance to peroxides.
