The 5th Victorian Psycho-oncology Conference hosted by the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) will be held on Friday 8th November 2019.
 
(Date) (Venue) – Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) opened the registration for the upcoming 5th Victorian Psycho-oncology Conference to be held in November.

VCCC spokesman was quoted as saying, “We are delighted to welcome you to the 5th Victorian Psycho-oncology Conference hosted by the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC). We are particularly keen to welcome new and emerging early career researchers to share their findings in a warm and supportive environment. With a conference theme of ‘Advancing Comprehensive Cancer Care’, this conference aims to address timely issues in research, education and practice and will showcase work from all of the disciplines for whom the patient cancer journey is important; nursing, general practice, oncology, complementary therapies, allied health, social work, psychology and psychiatry.”

He further added, “We hope to provide an opportunity for practitioners and researchers to share their experiences, and to form and strengthen collaborations across the local, national and international psycho-oncology community.”

The 5th Victorian Psycho-oncology Conference focuses on cancer patient and carer as it highlights the broad sweep of psycho-oncology research, the importance of comprehensive cancer care, and the potential benefits of rapid translation to practice for cancer survivors and their carers.

The organizers further added, “In addition to this great learning and networking opportunity, we are focused on the ultimate purpose of this work: to improve the lives of people facing cancer around the world.”

5th Victorian Psycho-oncology Conference Speakers
Professor Kerry Sherman / PhD
Kerry Sherman is a Professor of Health Psychology and Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology and member of the Centre for Emotional Health, Macquarie University.
Her research encompasses several broad domains of behavioural medicine with a focus on psycho-oncology including decision making in cancer and in genetic testing, coping and adjustment in the cancer context, body image and sexual functioning after physical illness, and the development and evaluation of psychosocial interventions to facilitate adjustment in the physical health context.

Professor Claire Foster /Ph.D., MSc, BSc, CPsychol:
Claire Foster is Professor of Psychosocial Oncology and Director of the Macmillan Survivorship Research Group in the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, University of Southampton, UK. Her research programme focuses on advancing understanding of the health outcomes and experiences of people diagnosed with cancer, treated with curative intent and self-management support.
Claire’s research team has developed and tested web-based resources to support self-management of fatigue following cancer treatment [e.g. RESTORE] and decision aids to support younger women with breast cancer facing decisions about surgery and genetic testing
