How do you define success? Is it a healthy bank balance, maybe being acknowledged for your talents and skills on a global scale or maybe it is to have a long portfolio of happy clients to your name. While all of these carry weight as aspects of being successful, these are all only outcomes of the actions you’ve taken to get to a certain point in your career. What is more important is the secret to what made you successful in the first place.
For Hair Makeup’s Tina Prajapat, a leading bridal make-up artist in London, success is the result of continuous actions that she has been taking for roughly two decades to always expand on her knowledge and skills, while still keeping her eye on a specific niche to become a specialist in this specific field.
“As I had such a broad interest in several topics, I opted to qualify myself in a range of fields. For me, it was often about liking a certain topic or aspect of the world of beauty and cosmetics and then getting better at it. But my field of study didn’t only include enhancing client appearances on the outside. I was also interested in what is making people beautiful from within. It is why I’ve qualified in holistic therapy and often share tips on beauty foods and my plant-based kitchen,” says Prajapat.
While she has experience and qualifications in a range of fields and topics, she opted to shift her focus to a niche market and to become a specialist in this field. The field that she has chosen was Asian bridal make-up. She says that while she travelled across the country for her work, it was often the case that Asian brides would approach her and ask for her assistance with their wedding make-up. “It opened my eyes to see the demand for Asian bridal make-up artists and it is why I opted to make this my niche,” she says.
Thus, while Prajapat’s success might be due to her wide knowledge base, it could also be because she opted to focus on only a niche or even maybe because she committed herself to what she is passionate about for more than two decades. However, it may be, none of these would have helped if it wasn’t for her commitment and her passion for the field she is in, coupled with her outstanding skills in the field.
