Leading and Empowering Self and Others
I fully agree that empowerment is mostly linked to greater autonomy and independence of employees, which enables them to make certain decisions without constant supervision and control of their manager. An effective leader should share his/her power and authority with employees and subordinates as it is the basis of empowerment and effective leadership in the workplace (De Janasz, Dowd, & Schneider, 2015). Besides, effective leaders should promote job satisfaction among employees through the greater empowerment and engagement of the latter, thus making them feel valued and important as professionals. In fact, empowerment does not only upgrade peoples self-efficacy and productivity but also increases job satisfaction, which results in a greater sense of achievement and self-worth.
Employee empowerment can bring many benefits to the company and the personnel, thus contributing to business and career growth, success, and development. If people are given more tasks and responsibilities in the workplace, they will be able to actively participate in the companys growth and regularly show their commitment to the business goals. Highly motivated and empowered employees will show higher productivity in the workplace, thus bringing more benefits to the companys present and future business.
However, it is true that there are both advantages and disadvantages of empowerment. I liked certain negative aspects of empowerment that were identified in the post, such as the blurred lines of authority and vision negatively affecting the companys success and employee work. Thus, not all employees can handle empowerment as they require training and education to effectively manage certain tasks. However, I do not agree with the claim that, If you want something done right, do it yourself as empowerment is a part of effective leadership and people should share power and responsibilities in order to organize a highly productive and successful working setting. So, which ways to empower employees are the most productive in the modern-day workplace?
