[SINGAPORE, 06/09/2017] – James Cook University Singapore, the Asian campus of James Cook University Australia, designed alternative pathway programs to make university education accessible to a wider range of students. The two on-campus programs are the English Language Proficiency Program (ELPP) and the Pre-University Foundation Program.

ELPP is a 4-month course while the Foundation Program lasts up to 8 months. They aim to make university education achievable for more students in the region with special entrance schemes.

Comprehensive Description of the Programs

• English Language Proficiency Program

This course is an English preparation program that helps students get a better grasp on speaking, writing and understanding the language. Through this program, the university aims to develop the students’ language skills for university study as well as hone their critical and independent learning abilities.

Students are required to complete four levels of the program. Intake of Levels 1-3 is in January, March, May, July, September and November. For Level 4, intake is in March, July and November.

• Pre-University Foundation Program

For students who cannot meet the rigorous entry requirements of a Bachelor’s degree (i.e., education history, family situation, geographical location), the university provides the Pre-University Foundation Program as an alternative pathway. It focuses on those who want to apply for undergraduate degrees in Psychology, Business, Business and Environmental Science and Information Technology.

Students take the program within two trimesters of 4 months each. They are required to finish ten subjects within the program duration, namely:
