Analysis has proven the transformation of the Australian electrical system, pushing towards wind and solar. It was uninterrupted during the coronavirus pandemic, but at the same time, gas and oil remain in the energy system on a national scale.
Australia’s transformation to green energy continued throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the use of coal. This small change has helped in getting Australia away from gas and oil. Even with numerous national lockdowns, the green energy market continues to push ahead. While the entire country has focused on electricity trends, the gas and petroleum systems continue to go on as normal, with no changes to a record.
The transition that Australia is going through is not an energy transition, but rather an electricity system transition. With the travel restrictions in place, there was a reduced need for liquid fuels, including petrol and aviation fuel. The lack of support for electric vehicles has also contributed to the continued use of liquid fuel.
The electricity emissions in Australia continue to fall, thanks to the uptake of solar and wind. Solar and wind together supply one-quarter of the electricity in the main grid last month, November 2021. This netted a thirty-two percent market share.
Joe Springer, the Manager at Springers Solar, said “November saw South Australia being powered mostly by solar and window, this included three days where the two energy sources supplied almost the entire state. In addition to this, Australia saw the lowest average wholesale electricity rate during the same period.”
The calculations do not demonstrate how higher solar and wind generation automatically delivers lower wholesale prices to consumers. There are two conclusions though. First, the high share of coal-fired generation will not deliver lower prices and the modern systems do not need high levels of generation to deliver competitive prices.”
Springers Solar remains a leader in Australia for its extensive range of solar products in 2021. Demand for solar energy continues to rise throughout the country with more homeowners looking for ways to reduce their energy costs in the long run. Australia is proud of its developments in terms of renewable power as more homeowners come on board to transform to solar and drop grid power.
