Surgical Method

Surgical excision is performed under general anesthesia. During the process, the surgeon literally cuts the tattoo out of the skin, and closes the wound with sutures. This method is best suited for small tattoos. It can be widely used on larger tattoos, but a skin graft from another part of the body is well used to cover the area.

Chemical Peels

In the chemical peel method, trichloracetic acid is usually used to remove layers of skin and eventually the tattoo. This method progressively removes layers of skin, and eventually the tattoo. Depending upon the age of the tattoo, it is not assured that a chemical peel will completely remove a tattoo. Generally, it has seen that a chemical peel can cause permanent damage to the skin like lightening but eventually peel off and renew itself. There are also some people who feel a burning sensation during the procedure, which can be followed by a feeling for numbness or stinging. The chemical peel procedure can effectively be done in the doctor’s office or in a surgery center.
