Hygiene Statistics from Leading Office Cleaner Southwark

An office cleaner Southwark provides UK hygiene statistics in 2024

Five thousand office workers in the United Kingdom were surveyed last year to identify worrying cleanliness and working habits. The study found that germs are passed on by precipitations of infected individuals through coughing and sneezing and touching surfaces. When bacteria reaches a surface it is able to survive for hours, sometimes months. As a result, it spreads to uninfected individuals through contaminated surfaces.

The survey showed the worrying statistic that only sixty one percent of office employees wash their hands properly after visiting the bathroom. Eighteen percent do a quick wash and seven percent admitted to not washing at all. Washing hands after the bathroom needs warm water and soap to eliminate bacteria. Women were more hygienic than men with sixty six percent washing after the bathroom, compared to fifty three percent of the men. Eleven percent of younger generations do not wash their hands, while those over forty five tend to ensure their hands are thoroughly washed.

With remote working and flexible hours, many businesses also allow their employees to bring their dogs to the office with them. At the same time, this can lower employee morale as seventy seventy percent of employees find this unhygienic. Having a dog in the office means having to hire a professional office cleaning service to ensure the dog hairs, fleas and other mess is removed and the area is made clean and hygienic for other employees.

In addition to all this, many employees find themselves taking on a lot of work, resulting in them eating their lunch at their desk. Twenty six percent of those taking part in the survey ate at their desks up to three times a week. A quarter will eat at their desks up to five times a week. Half of those aged eighteen to sixty four will leave their desk to eat.

Steve Rogers, the Director at Sloane Cleaning, an office cleaning company in Southwark, said “The worrying statistic about employees eating at their desks is only eleven percent will clean their desk properly after cleaning with thirty eight percent doing a quick clean, such as throwing wrappers in the bin. Seven percent are too busy to clean up after they have eaten at their desks. This is where our cleaning teams come in. We offer daily office cleaning solutions with minimal disruption, ensuring work surfaces are clean and safe.”
