Also, it was incredible how the dishes looked absolutely nothing like they normally do, yet after tasting them, I could undoubtedly detect the dish it represented or was inspired by.

The primary health benefits of the supplement are due to the omega3 fats that they contain. Most people get plenty of fat in their diet, but little, if any, of it is omega3 fat. Yet, those fats are essential to the human body.

When a nutrient is essential, it means that the body cannot produce it on its own, so it must be present in the diet. Otherwise, symptoms of deficiency will occur. Omega-3 deficiencies have been implicated in skin problems, depression, attention deficit disorders, aggressive behavior and cognitive decline among the elderly.

A capsule might contain 100mg of molecularly distilled fish oil, but only a portion of that is omega3 fat. In the better supplements, at least 50% of the fat is omega-3 and a high percentage is DHA.

DHA or Docosahexaenoic acid is the longest-chained of the essential fatty acids. The body can easily convert it into any of the others, including EPA. Increased intake of Eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA is known to be beneficial for reducing the risk of heart disease. It may help people lower their blood pressure naturally. It also has anti-inflammatory activity, which is beneficial for painful conditions, such as arthritis.

Increasing intake of omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to lower the level of triglycerides circulating in the bloodstream. One study showed that DHA was more effective than EPA for that purpose.

Another omega-3 is called DPA (Docosapentaenoic acid). It is a major component of seal oil. Not too much is known about DPA, but it is believed to contribute to overall cardiovascular health. So, molecularly distilled fish oil should contain it and the amount present should be clearly listed on the label, along with the others.

The better brands provide a minimum of 120mg of EPA and 50mg of DPA per 1000mg capsule. For adults, two capsules per day are recommended to reduce the risk of age-related heart disease and other degenerative disorders. For people suffering from arthritis, larger amounts may be recommended.
