Roughly a year ago, the artist, Shabina Suhail received permission from her Shaykh to continue with her career as an artist, expressing her religious passion and inspirations through her art.

While Shabina started her career as an artist already as a young girl and not only studied arts but also pursued a career in arts, life took her along a different pathway for a while. She got married, had a family and pursued a career in child care. Much later in life, she gave up her career to spend more time with her family but just over 12 months ago, the passion for creation was calling undeniably loud her name. It was when she received permission to pursue a career in arts and started an online gallery.

“To me, my art is more than merely painting or sketching. It is a way of exploring my religion, of being inspired and inspiring others. For such a long time as a child, I merely followed the rituals and the practices without grasping the deeper meaning behind it all. Now, my inspiration comes from Sufism, from my respect for the Shayks and my search to find the deeper meaning of the roots of my religion. I love to express these elements in my art. My painting is also not merely about spending the day in my studio. It forms part of a ritual of meditation, focusing my thoughts and connecting with the world I am surrounded by every day,” says Shabina Suhail.

Her gallery is a place of reflection, a place where many committed to the religion can find works of art representing the deep and sacred parts of the religion. The most outstanding Sufism fine prints are gripping and mesmerising. She has a wide collection of works from fine prints and sketches to vibrant paintings displaying complex layers of vibrant colours. She also likes to work with watercolours and describe the medium as wild and uncontrollable which is making it very exciting to work with and create images with a will of their own.

According to the artist, finding your pathway in life is easy. Your heart will know the journey and you should just follow. Her journey is one in which her job is her passion and her religion is who she is. She desires to inspire through art and urge others to immerse themselves in the journey their heart is directing them in.
