It is no secret that the legalization of the recreational use of marijuana in the state of Colorado is the source of an immense income to government coffins. Yet, when the most recent numbers became public, how much of a monetary injection the marijuana dispensaries across the state truly are, just became evident once again.
While the year still has one month to spare, the latest numbers from the Department of Revenue indicated that the trade already exceeded the annual expectation and is reaching a new high for the seventh year in a row.
“During 2020, the revenue that government earned from the trade was simply immense and as this number strengthened the pattern that we were already witnessing over the past couple of years, the expectations for 2021 were high. Yet, being already at the point where we are exceeding the numbers of 2020 with $5.4 million is just outstanding,” says Brittanny Szalewski, the marketing manager for Rocky Mountain Cannabis.

“Covid-19 gave the tourism industry an immense shock and while there was quite a setback for the trade to recover from, it appears that an increased interest in the marijuana trade surely came to the rescue. Today we have many visitors to our pot dispensaries and these tour groups even visit the growers in the region too to explore the entire industry,” Szalewski continues.
She expands on how years ago, tourists who were keen to explore the marijuana trade would exit the country to spend some time in the Netherlands. It is no longer necessary to spend US dollars at cafes in Amsterdam merely to be able to explore the recreational use of marijuana without having to fear the chances of being arrested and having to deal with criminal charges against your name. Now visitors can enjoy the same type of pleasures on American soil. It means that while government earns lucratively in the form of revenue, no currency is leaving the country as visitors can enjoy themselves right here in Colorado.
