Most women dread the onset of menopause. Menopause is not a condition or disease but a natural event in a woman’s life when she stops menstruating and is no longer fertile. Female menopause symptoms manifest long before its actual onset. Recognizing the signs of menopause will ease the stress and help you better accept the situation.

So, what is menopause symptom?

Menopause symptoms begin even before the woman’s last period. In some cases, the signs and symptoms of menopause begin to appear three to five years in advance. During this period, known as “peri-menopause”, estrogen levels drop giving rise to various symptoms that indicate the onset of menopause.

According to experts, menopause is confirmed when you do not get your menstrual period for a year. But before that happens, look out for these Peri Menopause Symptoms.

1. Change in Menstrual Patterns: Irregular periods are a one of the most common menopause signs and symptoms. Some women may menstruate every three weeks while others may not have a period for months at a time.

2. Vaginal Dryness: Most women experience dryness in the vagina. This is also accompanied by an itching sensation causing discomfort. As a result of vaginal dryness they may also experience pain during sex.

3. Low Fertility: Estrogen levels drop leading to lower fertility during peri-menopause. Lack of estrogen leads to thinning of the vaginal tissues and a decrease in lubrication in the vagina. Some women may also experience vaginal inflammation as a result.

4. Loss of Focus: Some women may not be able to focus on something for long. They may also have problems with memory, that is, not remember things quickly enough or forget easily. Learning something new might pose a challenge during this time.

5. Irritability and Mood Swings: Female Signs and Symptoms of Menopause include moodiness and irritability, generally caused due to lack of sleep.

6. Hot flashes and Night Sweats: Hot flashes are sudden increase in heat in parts of the body. Night sweats are hot flashes that happen when asleep where women break out into a sweat.

7. Sleep Disturbances and Moodiness: Going through menopause women have difficulty falling asleep or they find it difficult to sleep soundly due to anxiety or due to the night sweats. This may lead to moodiness and a general feeling of being constantly tired and unwell.

8. Urinary Problems: Women going through menopausal symptoms are easily susceptible to urinary tract infections. Frequent urination is also one of the menopause symptoms.

9. Physical Signs and Symptoms of Menopause: These may include thinning hair, reduction in breast size and fat buildup in the abdominal area.

10. Other Issues Related to Menopause Symptoms: Several other issues of a woman’s health are related to the symptoms of menopause.
