The unwanted cells then form a mass of tissue known as a tumor. A malignant tumor metastasizes and is life-threatening.

• The disease grows slowly, and most men with lower grade, early prostate cancer that is confined to the gland live for a long time after being diagnosed. Even without getting treated, the patient will not die of prostate cancer.
