Many who earn this degree choose to pursue a job as a psychologist in a clinical, sports, or health industry, to name a few.

Clinical psychologists work to diagnose and treat mental disorders in settings such as private practices and hospitals. There are also subcategories in this profession; individuals may choose to work with children or adults, or those who are experiencing substance abuse or learning disabilities. This area is also the largest subcategory out of all the psychologists' available positions.

For those who enjoy being around sports, exercise, and athletes, a position in sports psychology may be the most rewarding. While some people think these individuals only work with professional athletes, there are many other areas in which sports psychologists may find themselves. Work can be done with athletes of all different skill levels, improving their athletic performance and goal setting, as well as carrying out research. Sports psychologists may also work with injured athletes, assisting them in their recovery process. Psychologists also sometimes choose to move towards the counseling arena, where they can work in a variety of work environments with different people. Those who work in schools will deal with a multitude of students every year. The job requires guiding these young adults in their current academic career, as well as their continued education and life after moving on from middle school, junior high, or high school. Counselors who work in hospitals often have the title of a grief counselor. They will interact with patients and their families during the patient's stay in the hospital, and possibly with the family if they have experienced the patient's death.

While some will work in schools or hospitals, while others can find a more centralized task in working as a career counselor. These individuals will work with people who are looking for a new career, have questions about a particular profession, and how that profession will fit into their current lifestyle. Career counselors may work at schools, colleges and universities, junior colleges, and vocational rehabilitation companies. The main goal of working with a client in this job is to help them figure out where their talents lie, how to apply these abilities in a job setting, and how to go about working that particular career into their life.
