Sep 2018 ADB Safegate has recently gained a contract to put in its SafeLED airfield lighting (AGL) at the second runway of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The BLR Airport is controlled by Bangalore International Airport (BIAL). After installation, the runway is expected to become India’s original and only LED-powered runway. It is being built by L&T on an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) basis and is scheduled to become functional by October next year.

Dec 2018 Abu Dhabi International Airport has launched an interactive walkway which alters the footsteps of passengers into off-grid data and electricity. Abu Dhabi Airport Company has joined clean-tech company Pavegen and Masdar to create a 16 square metre energy harvesting walkway. The footsteps of about 8,000 travellers each day that are being captured and converted into electrical energy to monitor footfall data and power lighting along the walkway as they circulate between terminals 1 and 3 of the airport.
