EditionThe start of each NFL season comes with EA's Madden 22. This is an especially exciting version for LA Chargers fans as Justin Hebrert's ratings will be significantly greater than what it was when he was rookie player in Madden 22. Herbert's rating has not yet been released, as the ratings are slowly released over time. Two Charger players, Joey Bosa (and Keenan Allen) have been graded.
Allen is an overall 93rd and is one of the ten-highest-rated wide receivers in the league. This is a pleasant surprise, even when Keenan Allen is often slept on.
Joey Bosa's Madden 22 rating is solid, but allows room for growth for the LA Chargers edge rusher.
Joey Bosa enters Madden 22 as an overall left-outside linebacker (in previous editions he played as a left-handed end, but because of the LA Chargers going to a 3-4 defense he is now a left outside linebacker). I'd find it hard to be unhappy with the grade Bosa earned as he's one of the best edge rushers in the game.
Bosa recognizes that this isn't the ceiling. Bosa is expected to be in the upper 90s by end of the year and Madden adjusts his ratings accordingly. In reality, it should not be all that surprising that Bosa is the second-highest-rated defensive line player on the field, behind Aaron Donald.
The most important reason is Staley. Bosa is an elite player in his career However, Staley has made a livelihood through making elite players better. Staley was a success with Khalil Mack and Von Miller. Mack enjoyed a stellar season as an assistant coach for outside linebackers under Staley and hasn't been at that level since.
