Mining companies in Latin America have been feeling the impacts of water risks and are aware of the significance of good environmental stewardship. With water being seen as a scarce resource, mining in remote areas with limited access to freshwater is being increasingly threatened. Additionally, flooding, climate change and deterioration of water quality are other factors giving rise to operational costs.

The upcoming 4th edition of LatAm Mine Water Conference will present an opportunity to reflect on the current water situation in Latin America, the government's vision for the year and new practices undertaken by the mining industry for sustainable water management. After the huge success of the 2014 edition in Peru and 2 previous editions in Chile and Rio de Janeiro, the event will be attended by senior water specialists, hydrogeologists, government and regulatory authorities for 2 days of knowledge sharing and networking.

Experts from Anglo American, Southern Peru, VALE, Lumina Copper, BHP Billiton, Grupo Mexico and CDP will be scheduled to speak this year. Management of wastewater will feature prominently on the agenda, along with government guidelines, leading sustainability practices and water supply management.

Leading pipe systems manufacturer Hobas will be sponsoring the event for the 4th consecutive year, and will be joined by companies Endress+Hauser and Hexis. The is supported by CDP, ABGE (Associação Brasileira de Geologia de Engenharia e Ambiental) and the National Groundwater Association.
