Cyber Security Workshop Opens in Riyadh

The 2nd Kingdom Cyber Security Knowledge Sharing Workshop is taking place on 12-13 May at the Burj Rafal Kempinski Hotel in Riyadh.
 
May 12, 2015, Riyadh: Over 200 attendees are participating in Fleming Gulf's “2nd Annual Kingdom Cyber Security Knowledge Sharing Workshop” which began today at the Burj Rafal Kempinski Hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Over the course of two days, speakers across various industries will cover a variety of cyber security issues which have become nationwide concerns.

The workshop was opened by Sultan AbuKoshaim, CIO and Governor's Advisor at the Saudi Standards Metrology and Quality Organization. Mr. AbuKoshaim highlighted the government's role in cyber security and initiatives towards developing a national cyber security strategy.

William Leigher, Advanced Solutions Director: Intelligence, Information and Services at the Raytheon Company will speak about information assurance. Protection of employee data and critical information is a top priority for organizations, considering the high risks of information leakage. Leigher's presentation will covered the subject in detail and highlight the importance of good governance.“The importance of securing the cyber environment at Raytheon extends to the national security of countries that rely on our products. We address these needs using a holistic approach and continually update the technology over the years to make sure we have the right environment and mindset,” Leigher said. Raytheon, for the 2nd consecutive year is Gold Sponsor of the workshop.

Naveed Ahmed – Information Security and IT Governance Consutant at the National Information Center, Ministry of Interior spoke about securing mobile devices, associated threats, vulnerabilities and guiding principles.

Delegates also head from Basel Alomair, Founding Director of the National Center for Cyber security Technology (C4C) King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, whose presentation titled “Protecting Our Cyber space – Staying Ahead of the Game” gave a description of high level cyber attacks, challenges of cyber security and the key point of having a secure cyber

Day 1 also saw sessions led by Strategic Security Sponsor - Kaspersky Lab, Data Center Partner – DataLink, and ICT Partner – BT in addition to King Fahad Medical City, ISACA and Q-Cert.The day ended with a networking session where attendees could share experiences and business cards.

Day 2 of the conference tomorrow will see presentations from Saudi Aramco on cyber security framework for industrial control systems and Saudi Telecom Company on social engineering defenses. Suleyman Anil ,Head Cyber Defense at NATO will be speaking about NATO's policy on cyber defence.
