Hilton Sandton, Johannesburg ,January 22, 2016- A recent research shows that the number of targeted cyber attacks has increased by 42% from the previous year in South Africa and loses from cybercrime alone summed up to USD 500 million. Owing to these challenges, Fleming. is organizing its inaugural Africa Cyber Security Summit 2016 from 9th to 10th March with an aim to develop a cyber security structure to fight cybercrime and govern the cyber landscape.

It has been seen that recent use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) in support of terrorism attacks throughout Africa is adding to the growing need for a secure cyber space in Africa. The increasing awareness and the need to address cyber-security threats in Africa have also multiplied old Political clichés in Africa. However, new challenges arise alongside growth, and increasing technological exposure possess its own vulnerabilities and risks. One such risk that derives from increased technological exposures and requires urgent policy attention and action is cybercrime.

The Africa Cyber Security Summit intends to bring solutions to understanding the challenges and finding Sustainable solutions. Having said that, successfully combating cyber crime and protecting information infrastructures will also require international cooperation to promote the exchange of experience, identification and application of compatible norms and standards, added Vipin Rajan, conference producer with Fleming.

The summit aims to focus on achieving broad, concerted and comprehensive approaches to cyber security by showcasing commercial problem solving strategies and solutions for the global cyber threat that meet diverse challenges including IT Security infrastructure, Increase in e-Commerce Platform-specific Malware, cyber security skill development etc. Matters like Transnational threats and international crimes, developing a cyber infrastructure in South Africa and Combating Risks and Cyber Challenges across the continent will be discussed at the summit.

Mr. Vipin Rajan commented, “the implementation of measures to curb cyber attacks has been selective and driven by narrower agendas across Africa. The objective is to have all the stake holders to come together and address the lack of Cyber Infrastructure in Africa”.

Moreover, the event promises to offer worthy advice and best practice guidance through peer-led interactive sessions, thought provoking debates. Likewise, we commit to provide all our attendees a unique learning experience by giving them an opportunity to meet industry leaders and work towards a common goal.
