The Texas Association of Builders (TAB) announced that 394 projects eventually made the finals of the 2020 Star Awards. TAB launched the Star Awards program in 1992 and it remains the only statewide tribute to excellence in the residential home-building industry. In the year 2020, there was a record-breaking 624 entries from 54 cities across the state of Texas. The out-of-state judges reviewed 187 categories and selected the best in Texas.

TAB, although it is a voluntary trade organization, it represents the majority of the segments that exist in the residential building industry. They also have a legislative and regulatory process to ensure that all home builders in the state of Texas work under an umbrella group that can oversee that regulations and legislations are met by all.
