India’s leading company Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL), which specializes in fluid management, will be participating in the LatAm Mine Water Conference, Lima, Peru. To be held at Hotel Radisson Decapolis Miraflores, on 27 & 28 August 2014, the Mine Water Conference has the patronage of Autoridad Nacional del Agua (The National Water Authority), Peru, and is officially endorsed by Sernageomin, Government of Chile.

Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) is the flagship company of the US $ 2.1 billion Kirloskar Group. KBL is a global fluid management solutions provider and the largest manufacturer and exporter of centrifugal pumps and valves. KBL has a strong global presence with operations in Asia, Africa, Europe, Middle East and North America and the company will be marking its entry into Latin America’s fluid management sector by supporting the Mine Water Conference.
It is widely acknowledged that the mining industry´s use and impacts on water can result in a range of environmental, social and economic risks. Many parts of the world are experiencing water supply and quality difficulties with serious consequences for the environment, communities, industries and governments. There is increasing concern at international, national and local level as people are beginning to realize the inherent value of water. These concerns are driving mining companies to build a sustainable pathway to manage their water footprints and adopt best water management practices.
All the manufacturing facilities of KBL are ISO 9001 & ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 14000 Environment Standard certified. The factories deploy Total Quality Management tools using European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model. KBL is the only pump manufacturing company in India and ninth in the world to be accredited with the N and NPT certification by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
Mr. Jayant Sapre, Executive Director, KBL said: “Latin America and Peru in particular are at the cusp of major growth in the mining sector. The region covers 1/6th of the Earth and ranks 2nd in producing the world’s three most important metals (by valued of mined output): iron ore, gold and copper. Latin America hosts six of the 15 most valuable (in terms of mine revenue) operations and is home to three of the world’s three of the world’s 15 largest mining companies. My company KBL is keen to partner with LatAm and develop water technologies that will reduce cost of mining and provide sustainable mining.”

He added: “Peru is endowed with valuable natural resources. It is the world’s 2nd largest producer of silver and copper, 6th largest global producer of gold and it also has significant reserves of coal, iron ore, tin, sulfur and zinc. Mineral exports account for about 60 percent of Peru’s total shipments abroad. Given its strong mining potential, Peru has been attracting the world’s major mining companies to expand activities in the country. In 2013, the Peruvian Mines and Energy Ministry estimated that the production of copper will soon reach 1.57 million tons, an 18 percent increase over 2012 that stemmed from a 7.8 percent increase the year before. The current value of mining investment is in the neighbourhood of US $ 10 billion. Again over here, KBL would like to partner with likeminded companies to overcome the impacts on water in the area of environmental, social and economic risks.”
The Mine Water Conference is poised to bring together mining sector and government representatives to highlight the role of mining activities in water access and planning frameworks, discover how to integrate overall operations in order to increase efficiencies and ensure cost reductions, discuss critical insights into water regulations and social permits, and discuss cost-effective strategies and technologies to address climate change risks.
Mr. Manpreet Vohra, Mr. Manpreet Vohra, Ambassador of India to Peru, said: “We are happy to welcome Kirloskar Brothers Limited to Peru. We are sure the LatAm region’s mining industry will benefit through this conference and trade deals will materialize between businesses and we look forward to a deeper India Peru engagement in the future with strong companies like KBL in the region. Our effort is to ensure not just lateral but deeper engagement between India and Peru.”
