Hydrosalpinx is a common type of chronic tubal inflammation. After tubal inflammation, or because of adhesion atresia, secretion of mucosal cells accumulates in the lumen, or because of tubal inflammation, isthmus and umbrella end adhesion occurs, resulting in tubal empyema after obstruction.

When the pus cells in the lumen are absorbed, they eventually become water-like liquids, and some of the liquids are absorbed, leaving an empty shell, which shows hydrocephalus as an imaging modality.
