Since Phantasy Star Online 2 started on PC in the West last month, I have played over 50 hours --and even I can't let you know what the hell is going on in the trailer for the upcoming August upgrade. Unveiled today during IGN's Summer of Gambling event, this brand new trailer teases Episode 4 of PSO2's narrative, but the trailer itself mostly shows a squad of mechs fighting with a giant battleship. I'm not even talking about, for example, a cool space battleship. This is literally the IJN Yamato, a WW2 Japanese battleship.

That's predictably baffling for PSO2, which has been around in Japan for more than years but only recently obtained an English localization. People who've played the Japanese version probably understand what's happening here, however, the NA version is several updates supporting, and its narrative is really nonsensical anyway so I am not sure if the reason why those space explorers are fighting a battleship from the coast of Japan makes sense.

Despite this and the messy launching on the Windows shop, I am really enjoying PSO2's Monster Hunter-esque action and intense quantity of loot. But PSO2 is bizarre. What I am saying is that a bunch of mechs fighting a WW2-era battleship feels perfectly ordinary --and it doesn't really matter anyway because you do not play PSO2 for the story. You play with it to the over-the-top combat and superb boss battles.

The other neat bit of info, though, is that PSO2 will probably be coming to another storefront shortly, as stated in the end of the trailer. That is great news if you're reluctant to dive in the Windows Store to perform it right now (though the majority of the problems have been fixed). If you want to play PSO2, I highly suggest getting the habit launcher made by its community. It negates the need for the Windows shop and is simple to install.The stellar character-creation process is actually strong.
