Our goal, as a firm, is to provide quality & value engineering services.

Leach Wallace provided professional mechanical and electrical engineering services for the renovation of approximately 32,300 square feet at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center. The renovations expand the existing Kitchen and Servery. The renovation of the A,B,C, and D Conference Rooms, Seating/Vending Area, and Main Dining Area also was accomplished under this project. The A Building addition, of approximately 600 square feet, was constructed to house a new Dishwasher and associated functions. The vacated space associated with the relocated Dishwashing functions was converted to Office Space for the Kitchen/Servery Staff.

A new 20,000 cfm rooftop air handling unit and 18,000 rooftop make up air handling unit were installed to replace the existing air handling units serving the Kitchen and Servery. Both units were served from the existing campus chilled water system and from an expanded heating hot water system. In addition, new HVAC system were extended into the spaces and included variable air volume terminal units with direct digital controls. Make up air for the Servery hoods was provided by the new makeup air handling unit.

Domestic water services were extended from the existing systems currently serving the Kitchen and Servery to serve all new and existing relocated equipment specified by the Kitchen Consultant. All new sprinkler service and piping was provided for the Kitchen, Server, Ground Floor, and Interstitial spaces. Sprinkler piping was extended from existing risers installed under a previous project.

The project included the replacement of the original 240V, three phase and 120/240V single phase distribution systems that served the Kitchen, Servery, Cafeteria, Dishroom, and associated Support spaces. A new 480Y/277V system with step down transformers serving a new 208Y/120V system was designed to serve the spaces. New distribution panels, panelboards and transformers were located in the two existing electrical rooms and one new electrical room, centralizing the distribution system. Existing panelboards throughout the space were removed and loads that remained were reconnected to the new distribution system. Wiring to all receptacles, equipment and lighting fixtures was replaced in order to provide a grounding conductor to each device. Old distribution panels and panelboards were removed in phases as the existing loads were transferred to the new distribution system.

New lighting fixtures utilizing LED lamps were provided in the Kitchen, Servery, Cafeteria, Education Rooms, Stairs and the Offices. A dimming and daylight harvesting system was utilized in the Cafeteria.

New speakers and devices were added to the Hospital’s existing paging and fire alarm systems within the renovation and addition.
