Summit in Brazil emphasizing on HSSE as a priority in Energy Sector

Forum to bring together HSE experts to discuss ways to mitigate risks and improve productivity.
 
Latin America’s growing economy presents opportunities in oil, gas, petrochemicals. This growth has led to environmental and health safety concerns in the region. Fortifying the need to manage health & safety of employees and achieve HSSE goals with sustainable development, the 3rd Annual LatAm HSSE in Energy Conference commenced today at Windsor Atlantica Hotel, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Chairing the conference today is Antonia Lucky, Corporate Lead – Environment, Health & Safety from The National Gas Company of Trinidad & Tobago.

The forum kicked-off with keynote on HSE in a changing regulatory environment by Luis Fernando Betancourt Sánchez, HSE Under-Director from PEMEX. Shifting focus on best HSE and energy efficiency practices for Luis Tadeu Furlan, General Manager – CORP/SMES from Petrobras presented on ways to improve energy efficiency in operational activities. First half of the day includes workshop on Behaviour Based Safety led by Antonio Pinho EHS Executive Director from General Electric. The attendees will also hear from representatives from Castrol & Transperto

Post luncheon, Ivan de Souza Azevedo, Security Coordination from Eletronuclear will talk about safety culture of the Brazilian Nuclear Industry and share best practices based on their survey results. Another key session on responsible management of chemicals, its impact on human health & environment will be presented by Antonia Lucky, Corporate Lead – Environment, Health & Safety from The National Gas Company of Trinidad & Tobago.

Tomorrow, the forum will focus on sessions related to hazard identification, risk analysis and control strategies to prevent accidents. Day two will also have a workshop on emergency response and disaster management systems. Main focus of the sessions of second day will be on occupational health and hygiene, environmental emergencies, climate change issues and geographical threats.
