“With massive demographic growth, doubling of the urban foot print and economic development in a large way in bigger cities, it has a direct impact on the real estate industry” says Vasudevan Suresh, Vice Chairman of National Building Code of India and the Director of HIRCO Project Companies. He believes that in order to face the challenges in developing skyscrapers “The building of regulatory framework has to be fully geared on all facets of the skyscraper development needs. The technological and infrastructure support for the development also need to catch up, both from the builder side as well as city governance side”.
On being asked how the prefab industry would help in effective development of skyscrapers, he commented "The limitations of construction space and on site building construction would necessitate the use of faster construction systems. The issues of appropriate machinery for transportation, handling and erection at sites also need major revamping. The lateral load for wind and seismic effects, forces and the treatment for joints for structural integrity and functional performance from external environment have to be specially taken care of."
