The award-winning, nationally recognized personal injury law firm, Van Sant Law, recently announced the 2016 recipient of the firm’s Veterans’ Educational Scholarship Program. The scholarship program is designed to help U.S. military veterans currently attending or enrolled in college pay for college tuition. The firm recently awarded Jovan Canty, a decorated U.S. Navy veteran and single mother currently attending college to obtain her Associate’s degree in pediatrics, with the $1,000 scholarship award.

Canty enlisted in active duty in 2010 and honorably discharged in 2014. During this time, she has earned numerous medals and ribbons including the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Canty says she is “Incredibly grateful” to receive the 2016 Veterans’ Educational Scholarship, which will help her to further her education to “one day become a pediatric nurse.”

Canty says that because she is a single parent, it is financially difficult for her to achieve a Bachelor’s degree. “For now, I am only working towards an Associate’s. Once my child is older, I look forward to continuing my education to a Bachelor’s and eventually a Master’s.” She says that her goals to become a pediatric nurse are due to her caring nature and her desire to keep her child healthy.

The Veterans’ Educational Scholarship Program is an annual program dedicated to helping military veterans follow their educational and career dreams after returning home from serving their country. “Literally millions of veterans struggle with service-related disabilities, ranging from traumatic brain injuries and amputations to depression and post-traumatic stress disorder,” says David M. Van Sant, founder of Van Sant Law, LLC.

“Many strive to get an education, job training, and stability but face financial hurdles along the way. Our goal with the Veteran’s Educational Scholarship is to provide aid to the heroes of our country, who have not only postponed their educational dreams for years but have fought to protect and preserve our freedoms within our borders and overseas,” Van Sant adds.

The Veterans’ Educational Scholarship is awarded to one individual each year who has served in any branch of the United States Armed Forces and is either currently enrolled or already a student attending college. Applicants must provide legal documentation of their military service, such as a copy of their DD Form 214, as well as a copy of their student ID or other proof of college enrollment and a 500-word essay which outlines their military experience and educational goals.

Only honorably discharged veterans will be considered for the scholarship award. For more information about Van Sant Law’s Veterans’ Educational Program, visit http://www.vansantlaw.com/2016-04/veterans-educational-scholarship/
