MYSYMP AG has launched MYSYMP, an app devoted to streamlining the process of sending messages of sympathy and making memorial donations.

MYSYMP will allow users to send condolences to those who have lost a loved one and make charitable donations in memory of the deceased through the purchase and “lighting” of virtual candles. The app also provides a platform for users to express grief and support when a celebrity or high profile public figure passes away.

Possibly the most unique thing about MYSYMP is that it doesn’t shy away from the obvious: it provides a one-step, effortless, technological solution for an activity that is typically difficult and highly personal. “MYSYMP is nothing more - and nothing less - than a sign of the times,” says developer Isidoro Celentano.

He acknowledges that many may think MYSYMP a bit exploitive - taking advantage of people when they are grieving. He points out, “society today relies on the internet and technology to communicate around virtually every other life milestone. Why should death be an exception? We are busy people, constantly looking for ways to help us address life’s challenges. That is way MYSYMP does - it allows people who might normally drop the ball or not reach out in real time because they are overwhelmed, to express condolences and honor the deceased.”

By “lighting” a virtual candle, users express sympathy and make a charitable donation - the same actions they take offline, made simple, accessible, and straightforward.

For Celentano, though, this isn’t all business. The idea for MYSYMP started with the death of superstar Michael Jackson in June 2009. Millions of people around the world were concerned but most were powerless as to what they could do to acknowledge the pop icon’s passing, or how. There countless places where people left flowers, lit candles; there was messaging on social media sites - everything now lost or forgotten.

As a result, Celentano sought to create a lasting unique space for people to come together to share sympathies, make something good and be in touch with others who were experiencing the same feelings of loss - whether for an international celebrity, friend or family member.

Parallel to conceiving of and developing the MYSYMP app, Celentano had been the CEO of several different successful companies in Switzerland. In 2013, he shared his ideas around MYSYMP with friends and business partners who convinced him to move the project forward.

MYSYMP was developed by Celentano’s company, MYSYMP AG which is based in Nottwill, Switzerland. It will be available in the Apple AppStore. A release for Android in Google Play will be available soon. The MYSYMP-App has been in development and testing for over two years.
