What is life like for Queer Indians?

Gaylaxy Magazine provides latest news on politics, entertainment and health for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, homosexual, transgendered community in India. We also work specifically to protect the rights of its LGBT citizens.

India has been independent for 60 years, but a large section of the country known as the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community is still chained with British laws that criminalizes homosexuality. People of the community had a brief respite for 4 years when the Delhi High Court had ruled that consensual same-sex relations will no longer be a crime. However, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling in 2013, giving a big blow to efforts of the activists.
India based Gaylaxy.com is an online magazine that brings forth the voice of the community and highlights their issues and plights. The magazine has become a platform where many queer Indians regularly share their experiences of leading a life in conservative India.
Gaylaxy was launched in 2010 and since then has established itself as the leading LGBT site of India. We have had young readers writing and sharing their coming out stories, stories of acceptance by friends and families, of fear and apprehension, of heart-break and love.
For most queer Indians, life is full of uncertainty and fear. Fear of the family and of society. Fear that they will be shamed in public for being different. We had a young reader sharing his experience of being gay and Muslim, and another young man writing about the reactions that he gets from the society, and how he dealt with it all. But there are positive things too that keep happening, and more and more people are breaking the closet and embracing their sexuality. Many young people, especially school and college students, are trying to bring awareness and acceptance among their peers. More and more cities are holding their own gay pride parades.
Gaylaxy helps bring all these voices together at one platform, and inspires many others through such stories too. Through its various sections on health, news, entertainment, lifestyle etc, the magazine showcases the diversity that exists within the LGBT community.
