COVID-19 Construction Delays Resulted in a Bigger, Better ‘Splash City’ St. George Water Park

July 23, 2020 – St. George, Utah – The first-ever water park in St. George ran into construction delays as a result of COVID-19, but is set to resume construction in the coming weeks.

Splash City Adventure Park was first approved by the St. George City Council in 2017, but before construction on the water park could begin, developers had to complete road work to widen a portion of Red Hills Parkway and build a new street to connect Middleton Drive to Red Hill Parkway.

Crews broke ground in September 2019, but ran into COVID-19-related delays in early 2020. During that time, developers used the economic downturn to negotiate better pricing on components like waterslides, providing more opportunities to increase entertainment options inside the water park once it’s complete.

They were also able to increase the size of the Family Entertainment Center, an indoor venue on the St. George water park property with arcades, games, and event space for parties and events. The space will now be larger to accommodate more groups.

James Mayoros, a local businessman and entrepreneur spearheading the project to bring a water park to St. George, is excited have construction underway again.

“Our contractors are back working and you will see construction resume very soon,” said Mayoros. “We’re creating a place where families and friends can venture out and play, but also supporting the local economy by getting people back to work.”

The park includes over 11 acres of land in the area of 2200 Middleton Drive, just off the Green Springs exit of Interstate 15. Plans include an 80-foot tower where multiple slides launch, a wave pool, and a 900-foot lazy river, which will be the longest one at a water park in the state of Utah.

“Local residents and tourists have long talked about the benefits of a water park in the St. George area, and now that construction is underway again, we’re looking forward to a May 2021 opening that will provide a new place for families and friends to get outside in a safe and fun way.”

Season passes for the 2021 season will go on sale to local residents first, and will be available soon at the Splash City website (www.splashcitysg.com). Day passes and cabana rentals will also be available for sale as the park nears completion.
