Fehlerhafte Akkus: Überhitzungsgefahr bei HP

Im Fall der Fälle rät der Hersteller, den Akku mit einem ebenfalls bereitgestellten BIOS-Update sofort in den Akkusicherheitsmodus zu versetzen. Das Notebook oder die mobile Workstation ist HP zufolge dann über ein Netzteil ohne Akku weiterhin sicher nutzbar. In einem Statement gegenüber Heise Online betonte der Hersteller, das Problem betreffe nur rund 0,1 Prozent der weltweit verkauften HP-Produkte der vergangenen zwei Jahre.

Allerdings bietet HP einen Service: Der Hersteller „liefert für jeden verifizierten und qualifizierten Akku kostenlos einen Ersatzakku”. Auf der Website erklärt HP, wie das Ganze funktioniert. Wer also eines der folgenden Geräte besitzt, das zwischen Dezember 2015 und Dezember 2017 in den Handel kam, sollte auf der Hut sein und flugs das Testprogramm durchführen:
Schon bald könnten US- und EU-Airlines einen Laptop- und Elektronik-Bann aussprechen, diesmal allerdings für eingechecktes Gepäck und nicht in der Kabine.
