Check how much sugar is added if you plan on monitoring your sodium intake. Do your research as well.

Do you want to increase your intake of natural foods in Vancouver and ditch the processed and preservative-riddled foods out there? Finding natural foods in Vancouver does not have to be difficult. However, many people find it a struggle because of a lack of information.

If you want to eat more natural foods in Vancouver, stick to fresh food. You should cook more fresh food made from meat, poultry, eggs, fruits, and vegetables. However, if you have no choice but to throw in some packaged foods, here are the tips you need to know to ensure you read the food labels properly:

1.Go for products with a shorter list of ingredients.

The longer the ingredients list, the higher the chances of the product containing preservatives and additives. Go for those products that have a simpler list of ingredients. But make sure you still scrutinize and do your research on what these ingredients are.

2.The order of the ingredients listed matters.

One of the things you need to understand when it comes to food labels is that the ingredients are listed by order of their weight. The first ingredient listed in it is the heaviest. So, if it lists preservatives or additives as the first ingredient and the natural ingredients as the last ingredient, it means it doesn’t contain as many natural ingredients as you think it does and therefore, might not be a healthy product to pick. It’s not uncommon for companies to market their products and emphasize using natural ingredients but will only include a meager amount of it in the product.

3.Go for whole grain products.

When it comes to whole grains or refined grains, always opt for the former. Whole grains contain more fiber and nutrients compared to refined grains. Refined grains tend to contain empty carbs as well. So when buying bread, go for the whole wheat bread. If you are buying rice, opt for brown rice instead of white rice.

4.Check the sugar and sodium content.

Cutting back on your sugar intake? You will be surprised how many products that aren’t supposed to taste sweet contain sugar. So be sure to check the back label to check how much sugar is in it.

The same is true with sodium. Check how much sugar is added if you plan on monitoring your sodium intake.
Do your research as well. Find companies that truly stand behind their claims of natural food in Vancouver. And make sure you shop at healthy food stores like Famous Foods.
