You're wasting your time if you seek out more seasoned opponents. What's more, you're passing up a simple way to improve your financial situation. It's utterly meaningless to spend an hour beating a strong player for $10 when you could have done the same thing in 15 minutes against a fish for $100.

The score in poker is expressed in terms of the amount of money won. The aim is not to outdo other players but to amass the highest score possible.

Why are certain online poker rooms more reputable than others?
Although I believe there is an amount of chance involved in the kind of players a poker room gets, the fact that certain sites are visibly softer than others is not due to pure luck.

Here are the two primary explanations for why some poker venues attract a higher percentage of bad players.

How much and where advertisements are shown.
A gambling establishment and/or a sportsbook are present.

1) Marketing budgets and priorities.

The only individuals who will hear about a poker room if it does not advertise (on TV, in publications, etc.) are those who are already active in the online poker industry. Therefore, if you're already familiar with online poker, you have a significant advantage over someone who is just starting out in the game.

People who have never played poker online before are the ones that a poker site's advertising is most likely to reach. The wise players may expect these newcomers to be utterly terrible in the game of poker.

Second, think about where you want your ads to go. It's great news for us if a poker site caters to recreational players who are simply trying to have a good time.

2) The existence of a gambling establishment and/or a bookmaker.

A large number of poker rooms are divisions of broader gaming organisations. Betsafe is a good example of a site that is most known for its sportsbook but also has a casino and poker room.

Players from the sportsbetting and casino areas may quickly transition to the poker room, which is one of the many advantages of "single wallet" gaming sites. These gamblers have a considerably less sophisticated understanding of poker strategy and focus mostly on the game itself. So they play poker for the excitement of it, knowing well well that they would eventually lose all their money.

If you're looking for a place to settle down and play, go no further than a poker room that also offers a prominent casino or sportsbook.

Keep in mind that if you play poker on a site that also offers casino games, you should probably refrain from playing them. They never have positive expected value and won't help you increase your cash.

Classifications of poor poker players.
My girlfriend is living proof that there are numerous ineffective ways to operate a motor vehicle, and the same is true in poker. These are the three most common sorts of inept poker players.

Style of Play and Financial SuccessVariant Forms
Fish Loose-Passive Donk, donkey, calling station, and a grade of 8-10
Maniac Loose-Aggressive LAGtard, Aggressive Donk, Aggressive Fish, 1-10 LAGtard
Rock Tight-Passive 4/10 - 7/10 nit
For definitions of phrases like "loose-passive" and "loose-aggressive" in poker, please refer to my page on the topic.

I. The fish.

Fish
Playing style: Fish are more likely to play illogical hands than to call bets for no apparent reason. They risk too much on the flop by playing too many weak cards. Additionally, they will constantly pursue flush and straight draws.

Value betting is the key to victory.

Keep betting and taking their money when you have a winning hand. Bet large because they're going to call with some wild speculation. Do not bother trying to bluff them into submission; they are not going to fold. Betting with excellent hands rather than attempting to get fish to fold weak ones is the key to making easy money against them.

Maniac, number 2.

Maniac
How they play: maniacs have a high hand volume and play each one very aggressively. They thrive on taking down moderate pots by pushing opponents to fold strong hands. When they have a good hand themselves and a stubborn opponent keeps fighting despite having a weak one, they may win big.

The challenge with playing with a free, aggressive approach is that it may pay well. The crazy, though, is plainly a little too wild and aggressive to earn money regularly, thus the name. They're simply completely insane, not strategically insane (like a good LAG).

If you run across a LAG at the micro limits ($50NL and lower), take it with a grain of salt because they are probably losing money and not playing a winning LAG style.

Strategies for victory: Waiting for a "big hand" versus maniacs is a common piece of advice in poker strategy manuals, however it's bad advice (at least in an online cash game). If you make yourself that predictable, you may forget about being paid off the next time you put up a fight.

Instead, put your fear of crazy people aside and play some poker with them. You may make preflop calls if you want. They really are terrible competitors. When we play more hands with them, they have more chances to make blunders. Don't be scared to keep calling or raising when we create a good hand against them on the flip, such as TPTK or two pair. In the long term, we will come out ahead since our hand is far stronger than theirs.

You shouldn't assume that calling with a pair against a nut would always result in a victory. You have to accept the enormous volatility that comes with playing a crazy. Ultimately, putting your money in the centre versus a weaker range is +EV, so you'll come out ahead (for more on this, see G-bucks).

(3) The stone. (This refers to the kind of poker player, not the WWE superstar.)

Rock
They have a really cohesive style of play. They do nothing but wait for the arrival of strong hands. They only bet, call, or raise if they're sure they're ahead in the hand.

Bluff them and take their blinds to win.

Rocks and nits are very tight, so unless they have a monster hand, they'll usually simply fold. Because of this, we may exact revenge by betting with practically any hand and winning a slew of tiny pots. Although we don't anticipate taking down any enormous pots against these opponents, we should have no trouble picking up a number of smaller ones.

If they start calling, you should exercise caution. Even more so if they make a bet or a rise. If they get aggressive, you can be sure they have a winning hand. If this occurs, stop what you're doing unless you're really insane.
