You cannot change from one mode to the other while on the staircase, you must return into Hilt for that. You cannot kill the identical person more than twice in a row. If you perish, you'll loose your things, all except for the three most precious. If you are skulled, you will loose ALL your things, if you don't utilize Shield Item, which protects you.

You cannot pick up any drops from murdered players. The drops are captured by the Looters guild and sold in their store on Hilt or used for Item Gambling using kill points. Kill Points: After you kill the other player, you get a Kill stage (or points based on which they had on them and also their level.) . If you kill another player having over 5 kill points, then you'll receive 5 kill points when you kill them.

These Kill points have quite a few applications. They can be utilized to buy untradeable items(such as Castle Wars), gamble on various levels for tradable items(such as in Barbarian Assault), or to buy experience points(such as Pest Control). You won't loose all your kill points should you die, you'll loose one to five every time you die. I must admit this is not an original concept, I've seen threads suggesting kill points before. You have the option of entering Swordcross in"Explorer Mode", which protects you from attack from the player and monster. A massive symbol that resembles a sun floats above you. In Explorer Mode you ARE allowed to bring non-combat things on into the island, so you can alch and everything. The purpose of Explorer mode is to allow a participant to wander the island and watch fights without being in any danger. There's not really anything to do to the island however.

You can not change into Explorer Mode through PvP mode in order to save yourself, you want to go back into Hilt. Escaping while at PvP manner, while possible, is very hard and actually harmful. Escaping will be covered later.
