Here Is Your Essential PC Optimization Checklist
It’s certainly frustrating to use a slow computer, especially when it affects how you consume entertainment, communicate with others or complete work. But before you toss your machine aside to buy a new one, go through the following checklist for help.
PC optimization
1. Try Rebooting Your System
Table of Contents [show]
You may gain a surprising performance boost by rebooting your PC. In fact, you should do so periodically for several benefits.
It clears the errant processes in your system’s memory.
Your computer may need to reboot to complete a critical update or installation.
Rebooting may temporarily stop some malware from slowing down your system.
Your computer may need to repair your hard drive.
2. Remove Bloatware from Your Computer
Many computers carry software from the factory that expires quickly and slows down your computer. Some more sinister types of bloatware even spy on you and send your data to marketers while using up your precious bandwidth.
Visit the Control Panel and uninstall all unnecessary programs from your hard drive to remove bloatware. While you’re at it, remove programs you may don’t need anymore. And in the future, avoid installing untrustworthy software, especially if it throws up ads on your screen. Such programs are loaded with adware, which while harmless, affects the performance of your computer and Internet connection.
3. Clean Up Your Startup
Your computer will slow down unnecessarily if your Startup carries too many apps. Visit your Startup and brutally remove programs that you don’t need. This action will free up your memory and help your computer boot and run faster.
4. Update Your Operating System
The latest version of Windows has an excellent update system. Simply visit Windows Update and check for and install the latest updates for your operating system and essential programs. Next, ensure that your operating system updates automatically. Your computer is more likely to run like a well-oiled machine with the latest software.
5. Check for Malicious Software
Not only can malware be harmful to your security and privacy, but it can slow down your system. For example, computer viruses and worms can delete essential files and folders, resulting in errors. Likewise, spyware, adware, and stalkerware can use valuable resources.
While the default security system on Windows is competent, it’s simply not smart enough to catch emerging types of malware. The advanced antivirus software from Malwarebytes is an excellent option because it cleans your PC in a few minutes, and it’s light and a painless download.
6. Upgrade Your Hardware
If all else fails, consider upgrading your hardware’s main components like your RAM and storage drive. You should have at least 8GB of RAM, though 16GB is even better. Modern software can quickly use up less than 8GB of RAM. You can also replace your old hard disk drive with the much faster Solid-State Drive (SSD).
A slow PC can be stressful to use, especially in an age where we’re more dependent on our computers. But with the right settings, software, and hardware, you can quickly speed up your machine.
