Kazanlak is in central Bulgaria. Around the world, it is known as the Valley of
Roses and Thracian kings. Here you can became a witness of the biggest festival
held during the year- the Rose festival. Other attractions in the town are the
Kazanlak’s tomb, which is included in the UNESCO list, and the Museum of the
rose.
The city is located in the periphery of the largest reserve in Bulgaria “
Djendema”. Here you can rejoice in long walks in the variety of the beautiful
natural creations and ancient forests.
Rose Damascena is the biggest treasure of the region. It was moved from Asia
centuries ago. Today it is one of the symbols of Bulgaria. Due to the uniqueness
of the situation in Bulgaria, it has established as its own kind which is different
from the rest of the world. In this way, Kazanlak in the 19th century became
known as the Valley of Roses. The cultivation and processing of the rose are one
of the main crafts in the region. The official sale of rose oil abroad dates back to
the 1771 year.
Museum of the Rose was found in the 1984 year. Here, you can follow the
development of the production of roses and their utilisation. The museum has
three main halls, where there are several of many documents and photos that
describe the processing of roses and the vessels which were used for delivering
water and rose oil and their storage. The museum is visited by many tourists -
Bulgarian and foreign
As we said the biggest attraction in Kazanlak is the rose Festival, which is held
every year. It was celebrated for the first time in 1901. Since it is celebrated
every first weekend of June. This is the period when flowering Rose Demastsena.
During the festival, tourists can witness and became participants in picking roses
and their distillation. Festival ends with a contest of which is elected Queen of
Roses - the most beautiful girl. Rose festival in Kazanlak is visited by many
tourists each year. It is also noted in the Fukuyama City, Japan.
