[11-22-2024, Canada] – Sci-fi involving superheroes and powers has recently received a negative response from fans due to the overuse of clichés and stereotypes. However, to combat the situation, one author, Danielle Bouthillier, brought a new take on the sci-fi genre with their latest book release, Hero.
Superheroes in sci-fi are always shown as happy-go-lucky characters that have a happy end. However, Bouthillier presents a fresh story that's totally original. Her unconventional and action-packed debut novel provides a fresh perspective to readers. Her writing brings twisting plots and elaborate characterizations in her story to life that resonate with readers.
Hero stems its uniqueness from different plot points. For starters, the superhero is a woman already breaking the stereotypes of male superheroes. In addition, Bouthillier builds on these characters, which eventually clicks with the audience, improving the immersion.
The inspiration for the story came to the author when she perceived the thought of a superhero growing up in an abusive household. How would childhood trauma affect a superhero, and what would they become? Would great powers still come with great responsibilities? These were some of the questions she wanted to answer with her story.
When asked about the takeaway lesson she wants her readers to take, she stated, "I hope that readers will be entertained. More importantly, it shows the reader a different perspective of a superhero suffering from depression and ponder what it means to be a 'hero.'"
The story Hero focuses on Mia, a human born with supernatural powers. Among the powers she possesses, it include invisibility and teleportation, as well as superhuman intelligence and healing. With these powers, one would expect her to be a superwoman that won't easily be pushed down. However, despite her hard exterior, she still possesses emotions that make her human.
Danielle Bouthillier's Hero is available in paperback and on numerous online platforms such as Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
