A quick look at the Cat7 features of custom SFTP CAT7 Cables might make you wonder what the fuss is about, because at least on paper, it has everything you might need in an Ethernet cable. Cat7 was first approved as a standard in 2002 and was the first Ethernet cable type to provide speeds of up to 10 Gbps on copper cables up to 100 meters in length. Under ideal conditions, it can work at frequencies up to 600 MHz. This is significantly higher than Cat6 cables, although they are very close to the capabilities of Cat6A developed a few years later.

Cat7 cable does have a stricter crosstalk standard than Cat6, which is roughly equivalent to Cat6A. It usually achieves this through tighter twist combinations of internal wires, although shielding individual wires and entire cables is also a common choice.
What is Cat7? Similar but not the same
Cat7 cables sound great on paper—especially when they were first released—and there are some reasons why the standard is not as useful or feasible as similar cables such as Cat6A.

One of the most important reasons is that the Cat7 specification is a proprietary standard developed by a group of companies. It is not an IEEE standard, nor is it approved by TIA/EIA. Cat7 cables do not use traditional RJ-45 Ethernet connectors (technically known as 8P8C connectors). The GG45 connector used instead is a proprietary connector. Although it is backward compatible with RJ45, these connectors are difficult to obtain. Cat7 cables are also compatible with TERA connectors, although this is rarely used in the industry. Cat7 became an extremely unpopular cable category, and ultimately promoted the development of Cat6A cables in 2008. Although the standard proved to be more popular, it also added confusion. When Cat7 sounds better and newer, marketing similar Cat6A cables is difficult because of the higher number category. This has led some sellers to use Cat7 as a way to sell Cat6A cables.
