Specific analysis of the air permeability of ladle purging plug

Ladle purging plug is a kind of functional refractory material with long life, energy saving, consumption reduction and emission reduction. It is made by firing high-purity raw materials. It has the advantages of high blow-through rate, corrosion resistance, thermal vibration resistance, safety and reliability, and long life. Purging plug is used in the out-of-furnace refining of ferrous metals and the smelting of non-ferrous metals.

1.The influence of smelting conditions on the air permeability of ventilating bricks
The greater the degree of overheating, the lower the viscosity, surface tension, and wetting angle of the molten steel, the greater the tendency to seep steel, and the lower the ladle blow-through rate. Some research materials have introduced: when the carbon in the iron-carbon melt is 0.15% and 0.40%, the surface tension appears the minimum and the maximum, reducing the content of the non-metallic elements sulfur and oxygen of the steel grade can significantly increase the surface tension and the surface tension of the molten steel. Wetting angle, but these controls are restricted by the steel grade and other factors, and have great limitations.

2.The influence of airway size on air permeability
In the use of slit-type air permeable bricks, the slits are easily invaded by molten steel to form steel and the air permeability becomes smaller. It is difficult to blow argon, and the molten steel has little blooming, and it is difficult to achieve the role of pure molten steel. For air-permeable bricks that must be used in large ladle, in order to ensure air permeability, the size and number of slits must be constant and not too small. Steel clamping is inevitable for slit-type air-permeable bricks. The penetration of molten steel cannot be quantified, but the size of the slit air passage and raw materials can be used to minimize the steel clamping. The appropriate slit air passage size and thermal stability are better. Raw materials are beneficial to reduce steel clamping.

3.The effect of cracks on air permeability

The ladle to be used must be baked before use to reduce the temperature difference. But even so, the surface temperature of the breathable brick installed at the bottom of the ladle still cannot reach 1000°C, and the breathable brick is directly impacted by molten steel above 1600°C during tapping; The large flow and high-speed normal temperature argon gas makes the breathable brick slits when argon is blown. Part of the temperature drops rapidly, causing a huge temperature difference inside the ventilating brick. These two points are the main factors that cause cracks in the air permeable bricks.
