Peak ENT and Voice Center offers testing and immunotherapy for patients with inhalant and food allergies to lessen their sensitivity to allergens.

[BROOMFIELD, 9/13/2019] – Peak ENT and Voice Center performs various tests for both inhalant and food allergies. These help determine one’s triggers and the degree of their sensitivity for each allergen. Peak ENT and Voice Center uses the results of the allergy testing as a guide for the individualized immunotherapy, which helps desensitize patients to their triggers.

Skin Prick Testing

Skin prick testing is the most common testing method for inhalant allergies. Allergen extracts are inserted through superficial pricks on the skin. Peak ENT and Voice Center ensures that the procedure causes as little discomfort as possible. Board-certified physicians then measure the level of sensitivity based on the welt that appears on the test site.

Peak ENT and Voice Center also performs inhalant allergy blood testing for the following patients: those with severe asthma, those who have had a previous extreme reaction to skin testing, and those who cannot discontinue usage of medications that may interfere with the tests.

Food allergy testing is conducted via blood test as well. Peak ENT and Voice Center has various methods available for the two types of food allergy: IgE and IgG.

The results of the tests will be used to create an immunotherapy specific to the patient’s allergic conditions. The goal of the immunotherapy is to decrease the patient’s sensitivity to triggers and allergic responses.

Sublingual Immunotherapy Drops

Peak ENT and Voice Center also administers Sublingual Immunotherapy Drops (SLIT). This allergy treatment does not involve shots, making it a preferable option for those with a fear of injections. Allergen extracts in the form of drops or tablet are introduced into the body to develop lasting natural immunity. The medication is placed under the tongue for a few minutes and then swallowed.

Peak ENT and Voice Center uses FDA-approved extracts, similar with those used in traditional allergy shots. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, SLIT is relatively safe and effective as proven by most clinical trials and surveys.
