Bellingham, WA - Known to some in Northwest Washington as the "singing farmer", Laurie Lee Lewis, an organic farmer and humanitarian, has quite a long resume for releasing songs for charities, donating her time, farm produce and advocacy voice to needs such as feeding the hungry, animal welfare, Alzheimers and women's empowerment. But what many have not known about Lewis was the story behind her big smile, creativity and generous heart. When Lewis would suddenly disappear for months it was in those windows, engulfed in the fog she was recovering from one of many head injuries.

"When The Fog Lifts is not a book I wanted to write. I never wanted people to know how many times I hit my head. I would recover, jump back into life with gratitude and then wham... hit again and go back down the rabbit hole. There were times I could barely walk, much less type. I kept clear notes over the 10 years about my injuries, mostly for my sanity and should something happen, my daughter would have my story. As a single mom and care-giving my folks as well, I did not have much time to even realize just how injured I was. It wasn't until my dad's rapid decline and eventual horrific death from Alzheimers, that I made a promise to him and myself - to tell my story. His too for he was also a survivor of multiple concussions."

With sports and athletic injuries so prevalent in the news today, showing how multiple head injuries can result in possible early onset of Dementia, a book written by a non-athletic, woman farmer of common farm/home injuries, sets Lewis' book apart to speak for so many who have sustained head injuries. When The Fog Lifts touches on many types of fog aside from head injury. Depression, menopause, death, grief, divorce... and though heavy subjects to share, Lewis blends her journey with an optimistic perspective, offering hope, insights, humor and inspiration to the reader, whether they are the injured, caregiver, loved one or medical establishment.

"When I was deep in thick fog, I tried to find books, CDs, programs that would offer me hope. While they were very well-written books, I found most had small text, extremely hard vocabulary to pronounce and frankly, not very user-friendly to an injured brain. Nor, anything on multiple concussions. Learning more about CTE, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, the degenerative brain disease from a history of repetitive brain trauma, it scared the crap out of me! Seeing what happened to my dad... gave me the courage to finally write this book and share it while I can, just in case it happens to me. I also made the font a bit larger and warmer style, as well as left in my country-fied humor and language! If my journey can help another to treasure life and our precious brain - then this huge effort will have been worth it.
