However, passivation in Dubai is a process all alloys need to go through. Passivating metals is the process by which iron molecules are removed from the surface. He says these metals are an alloy of chromium, iron, and carbon. Metals like chromium and iron are susceptible to corrosion. But these metals are corrosion-free, as they have a surface with inert elements such as nickel and chromium. These elements form a thin passivating layer on the surface that protects the alloy from contamination. Chromium has no surface contamination and forms a thin layer around it that prevents corroding.

According to the company document, passivation in Dubai started in 1800 when the metallic surface showed no reaction when dipped into a concentrated nitric acid solution. The chemist Christian Friedrich compared the newly treated alloy with the regular one and noted the improved corrosion protection. Passivates in nitric acid are now common across the world and have become an industry standard.

Similarly, nitric acid has disadvantages like environmental damage and toxicity. Nitric acid was used in this process until the 1900s. Then a German brewing company introduced citric acid as an alternative. Nowadays, industry standards are advanced and rely on both kinds of baths.
