"The goal of The Physician and Midwife Collaborative Practice is to provide convenient, compassionate care that empowers our patients and allows us to assist them in the childbirth experience that they choose, while maintaining and upholding established medical standards and protocols." Says David Giammitorio, CEO "It is my pleasure to have collaborated with producer/director Brigid Maher. She followed three of P&M's expectant mothers as they prepare their homes for their new children along with three of our midwives; Danielle Smith, Gina Haldeman, and Patricia Valle."

In recent years, the idea of a "collaborative care" practice where doctors and midwives manage women's care together has begun to gain traction in the U.S. So far, research has demonstrated that collaborative care models produce better outcomes for mother and baby, including fewer C-sections.

At Physicians and Midwives, our midwives are Certified Nurse Midwives with undergraduate and advanced degrees in nursing and midwifery, as well as extensive training in Women's Health and Obstetrics. We began the system now called "Physicians and Midwives" in 1993 to fill what we believed to be a gap between what the patient expected and desired from her doctors and what she commonly received. Patients may schedule all of your routine GYN care with the midwives, including, but not limited to annual exams with PAP smear, birth control consults and family planning visits. Assisting families at this special time is our privilege and a true labor of love. Midwifery is undeniably a very old and rewarding vocation and today we are proud to call it our profession.
