FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

-- Diablo 3's Season 2 will be starting on PC and Mac soon. Blizzard outlined what to expect from this season and also explained why PS4 and Xbox One gamers don't have access to this feature.
Unfortunately, Blizzard didn't have good news for new-gen console owners. They said that seasons won't be coming to the PS4 or Xbox One versions because they aren't always-online.
"Some features on console are best designed for that platform, and the same is true for the PC version of the game," Blizzard said. "A large part of the fun of Seasons is the entire community rerolling heroes together at the same time. The offline and disconnected nature of console does not support this style of play. As a result, we do not currently have plans to implement Seasons on console."
I could see why offline consoles may present problems. The whole idea behind Seasons is the race to hit milestones before other players. Still, it sucks that PS4 and Xbox One owners will miss out on certain benefits of Seasons like the new items.
Season 2 will add another set of Legendary items for players to earn. Some of these Legendaries are already in the game but have been remade with new abilities. For example, the Season 2 edition of Wormwood summons a swarm of locusts that harrass enemies. These items will only be available through Seasonal play until the end of S2. After that point, they'll be available in the wider game with their new modifications.
Two more transmogrification pieces (which change the appearance of players' gear in those slots) will be introduced to the game as well. Season 1 allowed players to earn a helm and shoulderpads for the Conqueror's set by hitting max level. In Season 2, they can add matching boots and pants to their collection. Season 3 will presumably finish the set with gloves and a chestpiece.
Conquests, a season-specific kind of Achievements, will return. Blizzard plans to add or remove some, though.
"Some Conquests in Season 1 provided great gameplay experiences. On the flip side, some also drove gameplay that was less than desirable and, more importantly, not very fun. In Season 2, this observation has guided which Conquests are returning, which are not, and how we implemented new Conquests."
"You'll see the return of Conquests that encourage long-term goals, such as It's a Marathon and Sprinter. Reaching a specific Greater Rift level or rushing through Campaign mode from Act I to Act V are activities that encourage a variety of gameplay, some of which is outside the norm. In addition, while they offer a clear goal, they also encourage you to push harder for better results."
The new Conquests revealed today sure sound like a hassle. Avaritia challenges players to get a 50,000,000 gold streak in Hardcode mode outside of the Vault or Inner Sanctum. Worlds Apart asks them to list of bosses within 20 minutes. The third of the set, Language, will have players run around trying to find a list of lore books throughout the world.
Racking up Achievement points allows players to obtain an exclusive Bannet set. They'll get a Banner Shape for 100 Achievement points, a Pattern for 200, an Accent for 300, and a Sigil for 400.
Season 2's start date hasn't been announced yet. Blizzard will give players at least 30 days' notice before the end of Season 1, though.
